Joining the 100 days project allowed me to have a “frontline” project to focus on, a daily practice, and something that I enjoyed to share with others. It also allowed me to work on one of my yearly art goals - exploring collage in new ways.
At the same time sticking to the project helped me to create some space “behind the scenes” - to make art without the pressure of sharing, to experiment and to work towards other goals I set myself this year.
It gave me the freedom to explore ideas that were brewing in the back of my mind for some time and I developed an idea for a deeply personal project. I’ll be sharing more on that later, probably in July or August.
Going bigger was another one of the goals I set this year and I experimented with the larger pieces for myself without sharing a lot. My idea was to create some studies on cheaper paper and possibly cut them later into smaller pieces using a viewfinder (one of my favorite ways of finding compositions).
However, I realised that at the moment I like the studies as they are. I don’t know if I’ll be making more of these, but I learned a lot about working on a larger substrate from them. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the topic in my monthly creative prompts.
Here’s a little video with some of these “works in progress”:
Creating these larger pieces unlocked a new level of freedom in my practice and process. I leaned into working more with my watercolours as they help me to create really loose studies and don’t allow for much control (which I love).
At the moment I enjoy creating washy and bright pieces both in my sketchbooks and on larger pieces of paper and I don’t really have any plan for them. I had a very busy May & June and I have a vacation planned in early July, so for now I enjoy making art for the sake of it, without working towards any specific goals.

In my art practice I tend to be more productive, but less focused in summer, and then it’s the other way around in the colder parts of the year, so I’m just enjoying the moment right now.
