Previously I wrote about packing art supplies for travels, but it was more about having a light, versatile and minimal kit to have with you at all times when on the road. You can read it here:
Today I want to talk about a kit that can have maximum versatility and a variety of supplies, but nevertheless be portable and limited. We rented an apartment outside of the city for July and I wanted to have enough supplies with me in order to be able to make art almost as usual and not feel too constrained. I am all for setting limitations, but as a mixed media artist I couldn’t imagine going away without enough supplies for all the projects I planned for July.
What’s in my portable art studio
Substrates:
Art creations sketchbook (A5)
A handmade sketchbook with various papers
Two thin A4 sketchbooks with thick drawing paper that can handle some water
Drawing paper
Paints, pencils, etc.:
A small watercolour palette
Acrylic paints (little containers and several tubes)
Necolor II crayons
Faber Castell watercolour pencils
An assortment of graphite pencils, ink pens, etc.
Brush pens (Koi and Faber Castell)
Additional:
A brush roll
2 water brushes
A palette knife
An assortment of collage papers + other paper scraps
A tear-off palette from Winsor and Newton
Scissors, a glue stick, a ruler, bulldog clips, an eraser, a little spray bottle, etc.
A4 piece of cardboard to put under a piece of paper or a sketchbook
Some printed reference photos
It’s quite a lot of supplies and it all fits into this bag I bought on Amazon.
It is definitely a maxi art kit, but I enjoy having a choice and being able to continue working on my projects even when not in my usual studio space.
Thank you for reading and being here! I hope you found something useful or interesting.
