I like the idea of making notes about your art journey. I've never done that but think it may be a good idea. I'm not sure if I have the inclination or motivation to write it all out rather than just reflect on it in my head... I'll continue to ponder that one 🤔

Thank you for your comment Carl! Writing down reflections really helps me to track down what I love doing in my practice and clarify future directions. Mostly I do a little structured reflection from time to time. My structure would be something like (1) Visual parameters, such as colours, style & subject matter, message, materials, marks and process (2) Art direction: what I enjoy repeating, what feels most like me and what are the common threads (3) Unique characteristics, it can be about technical things like brush strokes or shapes, but also what’s the story behind the art.

Of course you can also just think about all those things in your head, I do it all the time haha!!

This sort of personal essay is more of an exception, I probably just felt like putting it all into words at that moment, that’s why I decided to share it!

I have been thinking as to why I haven't considered this before and it may be I have quite an amount of free time with my thoughts and ponderings anyway. I would love to fill this time with more creations but practicality makes that a little more difficult. I may use this to journal reflections instead. Thanks again .

“Remember - compare yourself only to yourself in the past.” This is such great advice! I’m so glad you got through the learning phase. It is tough to be in that part of the journey.

I loved reading this - so well put, and so true of the learning journey. It's funny how the sudden switch happens to making personal work after all the groundwork that comes before ☀️
