It may be not officially spring yet (depends on where you are in the world!), but it’s March, so it’s finally getting warmer and sunnier here in Vienna.
As usual I collected inspiration from other creatives to make the start of the month more fun! I hope that you will find these resources helpful and interesting.
Nurturing Creativity
How to transform your creative frustrations into fertilizer in 2025 - Creative Pep Talk. I really enjoyed this episode, it gave me a lot of ideas to explore in my practice, but also confidence in some of my decisions, like not having an IG account.
Pushing Creative Boundaries: Going Beyond Your Comfort Zone - Jenna Rainey. “Stagnancy is the enemy of creativity” - I really like this take on why we need to push our creative boundaries from time to time, it is a theme I also explored in one of the issues of creative prompts:
A Throwback Sketchbook Tour, Art Foundation & University Sketchbooks - Molly Lemon. Reflection and taking a look at old work is a big part of my process as it helps to find some common threads and better understand my current work and process, that’s why I loved this video from Molly looking at some of her early work.
Sketchbook practice
Finding Love in a Sketchbook with Helen Wells - Fida. I adore Helens art and always love to learn something new about her practice. She’s a fellow sketchbook lover and I really recommend this lovely interview!
On finding your style
Finding Your Own Unique Style As An Artist - Andie Lafrentz. I really resonate with this article and love how the author explaines their view! I recently wrote a post on this topic and I think they go well together:
On technique
The Problem with Warm and Cool - Learning to see. Colour theory tends to confuse people and what I think helps to overcome this confusion is to learn multiple ways of thinking about colour and its characteristics, so you can find a way that speaks to you best. I think this article and video at the end provide a great alternative to the idea of warm and cool colours.
Planning
How to actually achieve your painting goals in 2025 - Will Kemp. I like this idea to “pick one”. It’s something I decided to do within my 100 days project, to have a very minimal approach to format, subject and medium.
That’s all for this month, I hope you enjoyed the list! Thank you for reading and being here, everyone is greatly appreciated in this space!
Feel free to share this post with a creative friend and I’d be happy to hear from you in the comments.
Until next time!
