As I mentioned recently, I tend to be more productive and create more art in summer, but I am less focused and plan less. It’s the other way around in the colder parts of the year, when I often feel less inspired by my surroundings, so I’m really just enjoying the moment right now.
This means I decided to have a relaxed approach to both art and writing during summer and I feel that this decision has given me the freedom to work in my own pace without the pressure of keeping up with any plans or deadlines.
Letting go of expectations, permitting myself to play and being more relaxed are my key objectives for this season.
No matter in which season you are right now (figuratively and literally), I hope you enjoy your art practice and have a lovely summer (or winter)!
Here are some lovely sources to inspire you this month:
My Gentle Sketchbook Ritual for Low Energy Days - Helen Wells. As artists we tend to put a lot of pressure on ourselves in our art practice and I love the idea of a “gentle” ritual instead.
What if the mess is the point? - Louise Fletcher. I think this article complements Helen’s video in a great way and is also aligned with my current goal of letting go of expectations when I am making art.
Expert advice on making the best digital prints of your artwork - Jackson’s Art. Prints are something that I always have in the back of my mind, as I’d love to experiment with ways of presenting my work through a different medium. This article seems to be a nice starting point.
An Artist Studio | Studio Tour with Julia Muller - Jeanne Oliver. What’s more exciting than having a look into an artist’s studio? Jeanne created a whole series of these studio tours with lovely artists. I truly enjoyed every single issue and this one with Julie seems so relaxed and calm.
I hope you found something interesting and inspiring on this little list.
Thank you for reading and being here, everyone is greatly appreciated in this space!
Feel free to share this post with a creative friend and I’d be happy to hear from you in the comments.
Until next time!

Happy July Lisa 💕 I think Summer can be perfect to go with the flow if we let it be! (I’m more a Autumn girl tho, this kind of heat kills me 😅)
